Prime Minister Igor Luksic sent a letter of condolence on his own behalf and on behalf of the Government to his Japanese counterpart Naoto Kan and the people of Japan over the terrible earthquakes and tsunamis that have devastated parts of the country.

“On behalf of the Government of Montenegro and on my own behalf, let me express our sincerest and deepest condolences over the tragic consequences of the catastrophic earthquake that struck northeast coast of Japan.”

PM Luksic voiced Montenegro’s support: “In this time of loss and bereavement, as you mourn the loss of life and work to save the injured, our thoughts are with the victims’ families, the injured and all citizens of Japan,” adding that these natural disasters “should serve as a reminder that we are not invulnerable, and that life can come and go in the blink of an eye.”

He expressed confidence that Japanese efforts and expertise will help the country recover from this grave disaster: “However, we are certain that Japan’s experience and preparedness in disaster management will result in the country’s prompt recovery.”

“Please let me know whether there is anything that the Government of Montenegro can do to help during this difficult time,” concluded PM Luksic asking Mr Kan to extend the message of condolence to “the families who have lost their loved ones in the earthquake and its aftershocks.”
