Podgorica, Montenegro (25 January 2012) – Montenegro and Albania are set to enhance their cooperation in the sector of economy, but also in other areas, as their shared path of EU integration is ensured by cooperation, Prime Minister
Igor Lukšić told the press following his meeting with his Albanian counterpart
Sali Berisha in Podgorica earlier today.
The two officials agreed that the relationship between Montenegro and Albania extends well beyond the economic realm and noted that the two countries in the best way cherish European values of good neighbourly cooperation.
The two countries signed an agreement on a motorway connecting Montenegro's town of Plav with capital city Podgorica, good portion of which goes through Albania. PM Lukšić noted that this project showcases good cooperation between the two states and added that it should be deepened through other economic projects, such as using the resources from the bordering Lake Skadar and Bojana River.
Albanian Prime Minister Berisha said that the two countries should continue and enhance their cooperation, noting that both have excellent potential for tourism, in particular emphasising the future importance of Prokletije Mountains that border the two states.
