Defence Minister Bošković hosts US Senate delegation

Podgorica, Montenegro (11 August 2017) --  Montenegro as a full member of NATO will significantly contribute to maintaining and fostering regional and international peace and stability, Defence Minister Predrag Bošković and US senators visiting Montenegro concluded at today's meeting in Podgorica.

Minister Bošković said that the Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces of Montenegro of Montenegro pay special attention to the obligations arising from full membership in the Alliance, stressing that Montenegro will continue to be a stability factor in the region and promote the values ​​of the Euro-Atlantic community. He thanked the US delegation for the overall support of the United States, stressing the significance of the Strategic Partnership Programme between Montenegro and the State of Maine, hopeful that the bilateral defence cooperation betwee the two states will deepen considerably in the coming period.

Minister Bošković informed the US delegation about the activities and future plans the Ministry of Defence initiated and implemented in order to constantly advance and further modernsze the Montenegrin military.

Representatives of the US Senate delegation, headed by Senator Roy Blunt, underscored that Montenegro's progress in all key areas is evident, hopeful that Montenegro's integration into NATO will help ensure long-term security of the Western Balkans. US senators particularly stressed the importance of the contribution of the Montenegrin Army to international peacekeeping missions and expressed their gratitude for its contribution to the "Resolute Support" mission in Afghanistan. Referring to success in countering the negative external impact, representatives of the US delegation expressed their readiness to help boost bilateral cooperation in the time to come.
