Podgorica, Montenegro (21 July 2012) – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will pay his first official visit to Montenegro on 22 - 23 July 2012.

The UN Secretary General will meet with Prime Minister Igor Lukšić in Vila "Gorica", Podgorica, on Monday 23 July, at 11.45.

On Sunday 22 July, Mr Ban Ki-moon will meet with Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nebojša Kaluđerović in Vila "Gorica", Podgorica, at 15.45.

Following the meeting, Mr Ban Ki-moon and Foreign Minister Kaluđerović will visit the construction site of the UN green building on the banks of Morača River in Podgorica.

The UN Secretary General will pay a visit to Montenegro within his first visit to South East Europe, which aims to promote the partnership between the United Nations and the countries of the region. During the visit, Mr Ban Ki-moon will meet with top state officials of the South East Europe countries.

The cooperation with the UN and multilateralism are the top priorities of the Montenegrin Government. Montenegro has been implementing the programme of integrated cooperation with the UN. In April 2010, Montenegro joined the group of 8 pilot countries and about 30 countries throughout the world that voluntarily joined the UN system reform process titled “Delivering as One”.

Through the new cooperation mechanism, Montenegro actively contributes not only to more efficient UN response to national development priorities, but also to the advancement of the UN effectiveness in its member states in general.

The future common home of all UN agencies in Montenegro – the UN green building - will contribute to the achievement of the vision of “One UN”.
