Podgorica, Montenegro (AHN) - Authorities now say that 41 people are dead after a passenger train derailed in the Balkan nation of Montenegro.

Montenegro Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic was at a hospital in Podgorica where many of the injured are being treated, and says that "the government is dedicated to assist the victims' families."

Officials say an estimated 184 people were wounded, 90 of them children.

Olivera Djukanovic, a Montenegro official government spokeswoman, confirms that 14 of the 184 wounded were in "critical condition."

Djukanovic also confirms the specific route of the train, as it left Bar en-route to Bijelo Polje when the accident occurred, allowing the train to slide 50 meters down an embankment.

Authorities still say that it is most likely some form of brake failure that led to the accident.

According to CNN, state television broadcast appeals for blood donations, and government officials declared a three-day period of mourning for the victims of the crash after an emergency government meeting Monday afternoon.
