1st South Eastern European Government Communication Conference (SEECOM)

The 1st South Eastern European Government Communication Conference (SEECOM) is taking place at the Maestral Hotel in Budva, Montenegro, on 14-16 September 2012.

The SEECOM will bring together senior government communication officials from the South Eastern Europe and some of the leading government communication experts from Europe and the United States, with the purpose to exchange experiences and best government communication practices.

Participants in the Conference will adopt a joint Declaration establishing a regional professional forum for government communication. The Declaration will express participants’ professional and personal commitment to the core values and principles of government communication.

The goal of the Conference and the future Forum is to strengthen the role of government communicators in promoting government transparency and openness, free and easy access to information and greater public participation in policy making, with a view to advancing participatory democracy in the region.

The event is organised by the Government of Montenegro, UNDP Montenegro and Konrad Adenauer Foundation, with the support of the US Embassy in Podgorica.

SEECOM is part of Montenegro’s Action Plan for the Open Government Partnership (OGP) multilateral initiative, which aims to secure concrete commitments from governments to promote transparency, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness new technologies to strengthen governance through cooperation between governments and civil society.

The Conference working language is English.
