Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns Russia’s aggressive action which presents a flagrant violation of international law, endangerment of lives of Ukrainian citizens and dangerous undermining of European security. In these difficult and complex times, it is unacceptable to put in danger innocent civilians, women and children who fear for their lives.

Together with our European and NATO partners, we call upon Russia to immediately cease with attacks and withdraw military troops, and respect sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Montenegro, as a responsible member of international community, insists on the need of seeking diplomatic solutions of the crisis and considers every act of aggression and further escalation to be unacceptable.

Montenegro expresses solidarity with Ukrainian people and stays united with allies in full support to Ukraine in order for it to maintain in its internationally recognized borders.

Due to Russia’s military actions and complication of the situation, we inform the public that Ambassador Dragica Ponorac has been withdrawn from Ukraine, while the local staff currently remains in our Embassy in Kyiv. Since the early morning, Embassy of Montenegro is in intensive communication with our citizens who are in Ukraine, some of whom expressed interest to leave the country. Having in mind that Ukrainian authorities informed that air traffic is closed, the Embassy says that the return is possible only by land means, however they warn that roads are busy due to a large number of citizens who wish to leave the city.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs uses this chance to, once again, appeals to Montenegrin citizens to leave Ukraine, noting that except the Embassy in Kyiv, our Embassies in Romania, Poland and Hungary are also available in order to secure all necessary information.

Also, Directorate General for Consular Affairs and Diaspora of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is available in full capacity, therefore all interested citizens can contact it through this number 067070716 and mail address: arhiva.konzularno@mfa.gov.me
