“There are times in history when multilateralism is put to a test, as now is the case. Still, I have no doubt that we have the potential to turn this situation to our advantage”, Foreign Affairs Minister Đorđe Radulović stated during his speech at the Ministerial Meeting of the Alliance for Multilateralism which is being held at the margins of this year’s UN General Assembly.

At the conference, opened by Foreign Affairs Ministers of France and Germany, Heiko Maas and Jean-Yves Le Drian, the Head of Montenegrin Diplomacy confirmed that Montenegro provides a clear support to the values and goals promoted by this Alliance, assessing that they are an invaluable asset for strengthening international unity and solidarity and that the health crisis, which deepened already existing conflicts, represents a clear warning that we need to invest in multilateralism more than ever before

Current pandemic caused serious human rights violation all over the world, especially towards the most vulnerable groups – women and girls”, stated Minister Radulović, saying that the fight against the crisis and the following recovery must be fair, equal and sustainable, and that the full implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement Agenda and international human rights standards are of great significance for creating a better world that will be adequately prepared for future systematic challenges.

The Head of Montenegrin Diplomacy also participated at the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Conference, adopted by UNGA in 1996. but is still not ratified by 8 countries. “25th anniversary is an opportunity to repeat that this Treaty has an essential role in nuclear disarmament on a global level, it is also a reminder that without permanent and legally binding effect, peace and stability will be in danger”, Minister Radulović said, confirming Montenegro’s commitment to the goals of this document.

During his stay in New York, the Head of Montenegrin Diplomacy met with the Minister of Trade and Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto. They confirmed excellent bilateral cooperation and signed the Memorandum of understanding between diplomatic academies of the two countries. Speaking of national efforts in overcoming challenges caused by the pandemic, the Head of Montenegrin Diplomacy thanked FM Szijjarto for 200 thousand vaccines that Hungary donated in July. They emphasized the importance of mutual support at multilateral forums.
