Bijelo Polje, Montenegro (7 June 2011) – Montenegrin police arrested yesterday, 6 June, a 29-year-old Serbian national from Belgrade, who is suspected of being a member of the Pink Panther gang of international jewel thieves. This was the fourth Pink Panther arrest made or assisted by the Montenegrin police in the past two years.

The suspect was apprehended on an Interpol arrest warrant for armed robbery in Switzerland, while attempting to enter Montenegro at a northern Montenegro border crossing with Serbia.

He is currently being held in extradition custody in Bijelo Polje, northern Montenegro, pending extradition to Switzerland.

In 2009, Montenegro arrested a 34-year-old man in Cetinje, Montenegro, on suspicion of having stolen, with two other persons, more than one million euros worth of jewellery in Frankfurt, Germany. In 2010, Montenegrin police arrested Serbian citizen Bojan A. Vučković wanted by Interpol Vienna. Later that year, based on Montenegrin police intelligence, another Pink Panther suspect Radovan Jelušić was apprehended in Rome.
