Ministry of the Interior dismisses allegations on irregularities in conducting electoral register

Podgorica, Montenegro (24 April 2014) – Ministry of the Interior has received over 14 000 initiatives submitted by several Montenegrin political parties in March and April. Based on suspicion of irregularities, initiatives required the Ministry’s supervision over accuracy in conducting electoral registers.
According to the law on the electoral register, inspection control has issued proceedings on 3 040 submitted initiatives and proceedings on other initiatives are in progress. Inspection authorities examined birth registries held by the Ministry of the Interior and electronic databases of the Ministry for Information Society and Telecommunications, as well as public documents relevant for conducting the electoral register.
Comprehensive analysis carried out on the Central Voters Register stated there were no irregularities in conducting this electoral register. The inspection control has found no irregularities within its authority and it dismissed all initiatives as unfounded.
