NATO day marked in Montenegro

The Atlantic Council of Montenegro, in cooperation with the Government of Montenegro and the Capital City of Podgorica, with the support of NATO, marked 4 April - the founding day of NATO - with a series of events at Podgorica's main city square and other venues in the city.
The event's main message was that 2015 marked a turning point for Montenegro, as the country hopes to receive a NATO invitation by the end of the year. The organisers also noted that the NATO of today has an important new mission - one of peace and commitment to Western values.
The event included a number of activities - a symbolic planting of 29 trees at the Gorica hill in Podgorica, which was attended by NATO member-states' ambassadors and Montenegro's dignitaries, the presentation in the main square of Montenegro's Army, Police, and Firefighters equipment and skills, a photo exhibition, boy- and girl-scouts' presentations, a military brass orchestra performance, dancers, and the Beer&Steel rock band concert.
At noon sharp the citizens were treated with a parade of parachuters who landed in the main square. The afternoon and evening events will move to the town's 'KIC Budo Tomovic' culture centre, where Montenegrin intellectuals and activists will present their views on Montenegro's prospective Euro-Atlantic integration.
