The NATO Parliamentary Assembly Political Committee’s draft resolution, expected to be approved today at NATO PA annual session attended by Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, states that Montenegro should be invited to join the Alliance and reaffirms its strong supports for NATO enlargement policy, the press release published on NATO PA web site on 11 October notes.
“Montenegro hopes to receive a recommendation for membership from NATO foreign ministers in December, leading to a formal invitation to become the Alliance’s 29th member at next year’s NATO Summit in Warsaw,” the press release reads.
The draft resolution also emphasises that NATO potential member states need to speed up reforms towards meeting the membership criteria.
