Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic met Wednesday in Brussels with Belgian Prime Minster Yves Leterme. On this occasion, the Belgian Prime Minister said that his country, which is going to take the EU presidency on 1 July, is willing to encourage the European Commission to adopt a positive opinion on Montenegro’s membership application and that it was interested in seeing this happen during its presidency.
Prime Minister Djukanovic, on the other hand, underlined that Montenegro would remain true to the maxim of ‘quality over deadlines’, adding that the EU’s decision to open accession talks with another Western Balkan country, after six years, as such decision was last made for Croatia in 2004, would be beneficial for the European integration atmosphere in the region as a whole.
The two prime ministers also discussed the strengthening of bilateral economic ties and signed two agreements on social welfare and diplomatic relations.
