Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović opened the 4th Conference of Honorary Consuls of Montenegro, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Budva. This year’s conference, held under the theme “Montenegro on the International Stage: Security, Prosperity, Reputation”, gathered more than 30 honorary consuls from various countries across the world.

In his opening address, Ibrahimović thanked the honorary consuls for their dedication and contribution to promoting Montenegro, emphasising that they represent an important part of the diplomatic network and an extended arm of Montenegro’s diplomacy.

In the countries where you live and work, by promoting Montenegro, its interests and values, you strengthen our economic, cultural and tourism ties, support our citizens abroad, and provide assistance in times of crisis, he said.

He reminded that Montenegro currently has 60 honorary consuls in 48 countries, underlining that the Ministry remains committed to strengthening institutional support for their work through continuous communication, clear priorities and new forms of cooperation.

Our goal is for the network of honorary consuls to be connected and recognised as an integral part of Montenegro’s diplomatic network and a key instrument of its international promotion, Ibrahimović stated.

Addressing the country’s economic prospects, Ibrahimović underlined the importance of cooperation between diplomacy and business, expressing satisfaction that honorary consuls will also take part in the international economic conference “Montenegro 2025”, organised by the Chamber of Economy of Montenegro.

The synergy between diplomacy and business demonstrates our commitment to strengthening economic diplomacy – because every new investment, partnership or successful promotion of Montenegro contributes to the country’s development and its stronger position on the international stage, said Ibrahimović.

Also addressing the opening was Janis Darbari, Honorary Consul of Montenegro in India and doyen among honorary consuls, who described honorary consuls as “Montenegro’s extended family across the world.” She highlighted the long-standing friendship and cultural ties between Montenegro and India, the economic potential of Montenegro, and the importance of foreign investment as proof of the credibility of Montenegro’s development vision.

The conference, which runs until 17 October, aims to further strengthen the network of honorary consuls, enhance cooperation in the areas of economy, culture, tourism and consular services, and increase Montenegro’s international visibility. The programme will include round-table discussions dedicated to the role of honorary consuls in contemporary diplomacy, visa policy, cultural cooperation, and economic diplomacy.
