Ibrahimović at ministerial events on margins of UNGA81: From mediation and peacebuilding to accountability and global food security

Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović participated in five ministerial events on the margins of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, focusing on mediation, peace, accountability, the two-state solution and global food security.

At the 16th Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends of Mediation, Ibrahimović stressed that, at a time of growing geopolitical tensions, greater investment in prevention, dialogue and political solutions is needed. He particularly highlighted the role of regional and subregional organisations, as well as the importance of including women in mediation and peaceful conflict resolution processes.

The High-Level Conference of the Global Ministerial Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution focused on implementing the roadmap towards a lasting resolution of the Palestinian issue, further strengthened by UN Security Council Resolution 2803, and creating conditions for peaceful coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians through a two-state solution.

At the Ministerial-level Meeting of the UN Peacebuilding Commission, dedicated to national ownership and strengthening inclusive state institutions, Ibrahimović stressed that sustainable peace rests on strong and accountable institutions, the rule of law, respect for human rights and the inclusion of all segments of society in peacebuilding processes.

At the ministerial event “Ensuring Accountability for Ukraine”, Ibrahimović reiterated Montenegro’s firm support for Ukraine and stressed that a just and lasting peace must be based on international law and accountability for the most serious violations, including the crime of aggression. He stressed that accountability is not an obstacle to peace, but its foundation.

Montenegro further reaffirmed its support for Ukraine at the UN General Assembly, as well as during a joint “stakeout” event involving 51 countries, led by EU High Representative Kaja Kallas and the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, in support of Ukraine and the defence of the principles of international law.

At the second ministerial meeting of the Rome Coalition for Fertiliser Access and Food Security, Ibrahimović highlighted the interconnectedness of food security, energy, fertiliser supplies, freedom of navigation and international security, calling for the diversification of supply sources and routes, stronger resilience and concrete international cooperation.
