Ibrahimović attends 2BS Forum: Montenegro’s EU membership a strategic imperative, enlargement strengthens Europe’s security and resilience

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović participated today in the 15th International Security Forum “To Be Secure” (2BS) in Budva, taking part in the panel discussion “EU Membership: Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges to the Union.”
In his address, Ibrahimović emphasized that Montenegro’s membership in the European Union represents a strategic imperative and a long-term guarantee of stability, democracy, and prosperity. He underlined that EU enlargement is a geopolitical necessity and an investment in security, one that strengthens the resilience and stability of the entire European continent.
Ibrahimović noted that the European path requires a two-way commitment – on one hand, the implementation of reforms and institutional strengthening by candidate countries, and on the other, a clear and predictable policy from the European Union. He added that Montenegro consistently advocates for fair and merit-based assessment of individual progress, while maintaining the strategic importance of enlargement as one of the EU’s most effective policies.
Ibrahimović affirmed that there are no real obstacles on Montenegro’s European path, expressing confidence that through dedication and the consistent implementation of reforms, the country will earn its place in the European Union. He stressed that Montenegro’s European perspective is irreversible and represents a common national goal shared by all segments of society.
In addition to Ibrahimović, the panel featured Gordan Grlić Radman, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, and Borut Pahor, former President of the Republic of Slovenia.
In his conversation with Croatia’s Foreign Minister Grlić Radman, Ibrahimović underlined the importance of regional dialogue and confronting the past as essential foundations for future cooperation and stability. Both officials reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting a culture of remembrance and expressing respect for the victims of ideologies that burdened the region in the past.
