During a meeting with Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, President of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar expressed Slovenia's unwavering support for Montenegro's journey towards EU membership. President Pirc Musar emphasised the pivotal role Montenegro could play as a trailblazer, pulling other Western Balkan countries towards EU accession.

Acknowledging Montenegro's leadership in integration efforts, President Pirc Musar highlighted the transformative impact of EU membership, drawing upon Slovenia's own experience. Since joining the EU twenty years ago, Slovenia has nearly doubled its GDP per capita, underscoring the profound benefits of EU membership, she added.

Prime Minister Spajić expressed gratitude for Slovenia's steadfast support, particularly during critical moments such as the ongoing efforts to fulfill interim benchamarks for obtaining the IBAR by June.

The importance of close collaboration between the Montenegrin Government and Parliament, especially in the context of reforms related to Chapters 23 and 24, was emphasised during the meeting.

The rule of law has begun to reach a level at which it is expected to function. Key institutions in the judiciary and prosecution have not operated at full capacity for a long time. The appointment of professionals to vital positions is of utmost importance, and the adoption of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Act signals a departure from past negative practices, Prime Minister Spajić emphasised.

Economic cooperation between the two countries was also a focal point of discussion, with both leaders recognising untapped potential for enhancing bilateral economic ties.

The meeting emphasised the need to restore investor confidence in the judicial system as a prerequisite for attracting credible companies.

Prime Minister Spajić outlined several reforms aimed at eliminating business barriers.

Additionally, the importance of combating hybrid threats was underscored, with the imminent opening of the Western Balkans Cyber Capacity Centre deemed crucial for regional security in this regard.
