Spajić: UNESCO status of sites in Montenegro will not be jeopardized

Prime Minister Milojko Spajić will head the National Commission for UNESCO.
As decided at today’s Cabinet session, Spajić will chair the Commission, which has the task over the next six months to ensure that parts of Montenegro’s cultural heritage maintain their UNESCO status.
Kotor, the Kotor Fortress, Durmitor National Park, and the medieval tombstones (stećci) in Žabljak and Plužine will remain part of the world’s most valuable natural and cultural-historical treasures, the Prime Minister stated in a social media post.
The UNESCO status of these sites will not be put at risk. It is our recognition but also a great development opportunity. I have taken on the role of chairing the National Commission for UNESCO, and together with experts, we will do everything to preserve the unique values of our country and ensure they remain internationally recognized, he added.
With the amendment to the decision on the establishment of the National Commission for UNESCO, the Prime Minister will serve as its president, while Minister of Culture Tamara Vujović will be the deputy chair.
The Commission consists of a total of 26 members.
