The Ministry of the Interior has adopted the Decision on Amendments to the Code of Police Ethics
The Ministry of the Interior, recognizing the need to align with GRECO recommendations and establish a system of confidential ethical counseling for police officers, has adopted the Decision on Amendments to the Code of Police Ethics.
The amendments provide that the Ethics Committee shall issue opinions and recommendations to police officers who seek confidential advice regarding the application of the Code of Police Ethics.
A new article has also been added to the Code regulating the institute of confidential counseling. It stipulates that, in cases of uncertainty as to whether their conduct is in compliance with the Code, a police officer may submit a written request to the Ethics Committee for confidential advice concerning the application of the Code. In such cases, the Ethics Committee shall provide an opinion with recommendations within 30 days from the date of the officer’s request.
Confidential counseling implies the protection of the police officer’s privacy in communications with the Ethics Committee.
