Nationals of Montenegro are required to obtain a visa to enter Saudi Arabia.

Bilateral Relations/Diplomatic Relations Overview 

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, we have been developing diplomatic relations between Montenegro and Saudi Arabia in the spirit of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Saudi Arabia recognized Montenegro on September 16, 2011, when diplomatic relations were established.

Faisal Ghazi Ismail Hifzi, non-resident ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, based in Tirana, assumed the duty on December 9, 2021. Previously, on November 19, 2018, this duty was performed by non-resident ambassador Abdelmomen Muhammad Sharaf.

On January 8, 2020, the non-resident Ambassador of Montenegro to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, stationed in Abu Dhabi, Dušanka Jeknić, presented credentials to the Guardian of the Two Holy Mosques, H.H. Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, King of Saudi Arabia. By presenting credentials, Jeknić became the first Ambassador of Montenegro to Saudi Arabia. She was on duty until February 24, 2021.

Political Contacts

The former President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović visited Saudi Arabia on March 9, 2010, which was the first visit of a Montenegrin official to this country.

On several occasions, working-level meetings or meetings on the sidelines of multilateral conferences and gatherings were held.

Economic Cooperation / International Trade

The total trade between Montenegro and Saudi Arabia in the period from January-October 2021 amounted to 559.2 thousand euros (import 172,7 thousand euros; export 386,5 thousand euros) which is about thirty times more than in the same period in 2020, due to faster dynamics of export growth than imports. A trade surplus of 138.3 thousand euros was realized, while in the previous year a deficit was recorded.

Exports of goods amounted to 289.0 thousand euros, which is about forty times more than in the first nine months of 2020. The increase in exports was determined by the growth of exports of cereals and cereal products, which were also the main export products in this period. value of 271.9 thousand euros, while in the same period last year was not recorded exports of these products.

Imports of goods amounted to 150.7 thousand euros, which is about twenty times more than in the first nine months of 2020. The increase in imports was determined by the growth of imports of oil and petroleum products, which at the same time in this period were the main imported products of the amount of 147.5 thousand euros, while in the same period last year were not recorded imports of these products.

Foreign direct investments in the period January-October 2021 amounted to € 1.2 million, while in 2020 they amounted to € 872.24 thousand. €. In 2019, foreign direct investments amounted to 884.92 thousand €.
