VISA REGIME

Nationals of Spain may enter, pass through the territory of and stay in Montenegro up to 90 days, with a valid travel document, without a visa.

Nationals of Spain may enter, pass through the territory of and stay in Montenegro up to 30 days, without a visa, with a valid identity card issued by the competent authority of Spain.


Montenegro and the Kingdom of Spain have traditionally good relations that were established during the Principality of Montenegro. During the Balkan wars, in 1912 and 1913, Major Emilio Toro, the military attaché of the Kingdom of Spain in Montenegro, stayed in Cetinje. At that time, Montenegro had established consular relations with Spain. Montenegro and the Kingdom of Spain have good and friendly bilateral cooperation. The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the two countries signed the Political Declaration on Bilateral Relations on May 19, 2011 in Madrid.

Diplomatic relations

The Kingdom of Spain recognized Montenegro on June 16, 2006. Diplomatic relations were established on December 12, 2006.  Montenegro is currently represented in Spain at the level of charge d'affaires Ms. Milica Đuričković.

The non - resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Spain to Montenegro, based in Belgrade, is Mr. Raúl Bartolomé Molina.

Charge d'affaires a.i. of the Office of the Kingdom of Spain in Podgorica is Mr. Manuel Duran Himenes-Riko. 

Official visits

The President of the Government of the Kingdom of Spain Pedro Sanchez paid an official visit to Montenegro on July 31, 2022 as part of his official visits to Western Balkan.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Mr. Milan Roćen paid an official visit to Spain on May 19, 2011. 

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, Mr. Miguel Angel Moratinos, paid an official visit to Montenegro on April 21, 2010.

Economic indicators

The total foreign trade between Montenegro and Spain in the period January-November 2022 amounted to EUR 57,5 million (exports EUR 3,7 million, imports EUR 53,8 million). The total trade in 2021 amounted to EUR 57,5 million (exports EUR 3,7 million euros, imports EUR 53,8 million). During 2020, foreign trade amounted to EUR 44,6 million (imports EUR 43,67 million, exports EUR 931 thousand). In 2019, foreign trade with Spain amounted to EUR 49,39 million (imports EUR 48,22 million, exports EUR 1,17 million). 

The total foreign direct investments from Spain in the period January-November 2022 amounted to EUR 3,1 million. The total foreign direct investments from Spain in 2021 amounted to EUR 1,9 million. During 2020, foreign direct investments from Spain amounted to EUR 6,48 million and in 2019, investments from Spain amounted to EUR 5,45 million.

There were 9,117 tourists from Spain who visited Montenegro, who realized 20,161 overnight stays in the period January-November 2022. In 2021, 6,227 tourists from Spain visited Montenegro with 19,284 overnight stays. In 2020, 1,081 tourists from Spain visited Montenegro, with 3,196 overnight stays. In 2019, Montenegro was visited by 12,440 tourists from Spain, who had 31,295 overnight stays.
