Women's Internship Program

at the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs of Montenegro

The Ministry of Transport of Montenegro is once again offering an internship opportunity as part of the World Bank-financed Western Balkans Trade and Transport Facilitation Project (TTFP) Phase 2. The internship will be implemented within the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs of Montenegro, with three selected interns to be placed in the Ministry of Transport and two selected interns in the Ministry of Maritime Affairs.

1. Project background

The TTFP Phase 2 is part of a larger regional program covering multiple Western Balkans countries.

The Loan Agreement for Montenegro’s TTFP Phase 2 was signed on 13 February 2023, and the Project will close on 30 April 2028. The Project objective is to reduce trade costs and increase transport efficiency in Montenegro by streamlining the processing of international trade and transport documentation for traders and relevant administrations.

The TTFP Phase 2 is expected to contribute to more efficient and transparent processing of trade and transport documentation, reduce duplications and overlaps, lower transport and administrative costs, reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with truck idling time, and improve Montenegro’s competitiveness in regional and global markets.

The TTFP Phase 2 also supports the improvement of transport efficiency, predictability and climate resilience through activities such as the development of a National Single Window, Port Community System, improvement of railway level crossings and preparation of transport sector strategies.

The TTFP Phase 2 is implemented by the PIU within the Ministry of Transport, with support from the Technical Services Unit of the Ministry of Finance. In addition to the Ministry of Transport, the Project beneficiaries include, among others, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Customs Administration, Railway Infrastructure of Montenegro, Port Authority of Bar, Luka Bar, Port of Adria, Transport Administration and Monteput.

2. Women's Internship Program – who can apply?

This exclusive internship is open to female university students and recent graduates looking to gain hands-on experience in transport, maritime affairs and infrastructure projects. The program is designed to help increase female participation in fields that have traditionally seen lower representation of women, such as engineering, construction, transport, logistics and maritime affairs.

3. Eligibility Criteria:

• Education: Female final-year students and recent graduates/postgraduates in transport engineering, logistics, economics, public policy, international trade, maritime studies, or a related field relevant to transport, maritime affairs and infrastructure.
• Language: Good command of English and Montenegrin. Additional languages will be considered an advantage.
• Skills: Strong analytical, research and communication skills.
• Interest: Demonstrated interest in regional trade, transport policy, maritime affairs and international cooperation.
• Computer Skills: Familiarity with Microsoft Office, data analysis tools etc.
  
  4. Internship Structure:

• Placement: Interns will work within the Ministry of Transport of Montenegro and Ministry of Maritime Affairs of Montenegro on TTFP-related activities. Three interns will be placed at the Ministry of Transport, while two interns will be placed at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs.
• Mentorship: Interns will be paired with experienced mentors in the transport and maritime sector.
• Project Work: Practical tasks in data analysis, logistics, project management, fieldwork, technical research, reporting and support to project implementation activities.
• Training: Access to workshops and capacity building programs organized by the Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Maritime Affairs, and technical skills development.
• Duration: 12 months paid internship for a comprehensive learning experience.
• Number of candidates: 5 in total, out of which three interns will be assigned to the Ministry of Transport and two interns to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs.
• Expected start of the program: September 1, 2026
• Selected candidates will receive remuneration.

6. Selection process

Only complete applications submitted within the prescribed deadline will be reviewed.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.

The selection of candidates will be based on the relevance of the applicant’s educational background, motivation, skills, and performance during the interview.

Following completion of the selection process, successful applicants will receive an internship offer letter.

An internship contract will be signed with the selected candidates before the commencement of the internship.
