Montenegro, Croatia and Albania are working together to deal with illegal migration and border control, but they see room for further enhancement of cooperation in combating against cross-border crime and, in particular, for enforcing of agreements with the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), ministers of the interior, Mevludin Nuhodžić, Davor Božinović and Sander Lleshaj, concluded at a meeting, which took place in Zagreb earlier today.

Minister Nuhodžić emphasised the importance of operational information exchange in the field of combating illegal migration and all forms of cross-border crime. This is illustrated by the fact that over the past years, in cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office, more than 70 persons, members of smuggling groups operating on the territory of Montenegro, were prosecuted.
"Our motto is: Security and challenges on the territory of Europe are indivisible and common," said Minister Nuhodžić. He concluded by saying that the challenges of migration that have a global dimension can only be solved synergistically, if cooperating in a operative and strategic manner.
„We will continue to strengthen the capacities of the border police, modernize the technical equipment of the borders, work on increasing the reception capacities, implement the readmission agreements consistently, and adopt Schengen standards when it comes to security and border control “, added Nuhodžić. He said that Croatia went far away on the Schengen road and that in this regard it could provide assistance to Montenegro, which, although it is a small country, in terms of illegal migration, is prepared to provide all its available resources in cooperation with the countries of the region and the countries of the European Union, and concluded that the cooperation of the ministries of the interior is of good quality and intensive, and that the mutual relations are sincere, open, partner-oriented, friendly and good-neighbourly oriented, which is also an important condition for quality suppression and solving of these problems.
Host of the meeting, Minister Božinović, said that Croatia insists on the involvement of the countries of our region with the European Union on the issues concerning security challenges.
„We, from all, Croatian and regional interests, insisted that the countries of Southeastern Europe, which are also candidate countries for membership in the European Union, are in no way disadvantaged in EU-level dialogues, because this is in the common interest , not only in the interests of the countries of this part of Europe, but of Europe as a whole“,said the Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia Davor Božinović. He also pointed to the importance of implementing the implementation of status agreements with the European coastal and border guards (Frontex).
Ministers of the Interior of Montenegro, Croatia and Albania agreed that today's meeting resulted in a very contentious conversation and expressed satisfaction with the achieved and agreed, which will be implemented in the following period through working groups, in order to further improve cooperation, and thus the resilience to the challenges that we all face together.
Discussion was held during the meeting about the possibility of withdrawing funds from the pre-accession EU funds available to Montenegro and Albania, as well as the development of joint ones, with Croatia, proposals for strengthening border capacities and border police.
