Abazović at conference on independent living of PWDs: Democracy without equality and without principles does not have its full meaning

Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović opened the Conference on Independent Living of Persons with Disabilities, which was organised by the Association of Youth with Disabilities of Montenegro (UMHCG).

At the very beginning, DPM Abazović commented on the work and contribution of the late Milenko Vojičić, who was the driving force of all people who fought for equality.

Speaking about what the state has done in the previous period in order to improve the mobility of PWDs and adapt various facilities of public importance, Abazović said that there is certainly some progress and that the institutions have done more than in the previous 5 years, but that is not sufficient nor a satisfactory level has been reached.

DPM Abazović pointed out that all state institutions must work harder to contribute to the mobility of PWDs.

"If we have enough will, I think we will find the means to adapt our buildings and our public institutions for all people, to enable greater inclusion, greater mobility and to look forward to diversity," said DPM Abazović.

"We as a society can only succeed if we stand together. Every individual is important, and without every individual, our mosaic of civil Montenegro will never be complete," DPM Abazović noted at the conference.

Abazović said that it is important that as individuals we forget personal and selfish interests, and that we all together make a personal contribution to our community.

"Our greatest personal interest is for the civil society of Montenegro to finally function, to be a society of well-being, a higher standard of living and greater inclusion," DPM Abazović pointed out.

Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović expressed hope that 5 May 2022 will be welcomed with visible success, emphasising that it may be a small thing for the state, but great for a full inclusion, as well as the creation of a society of equal opportunities and full realization of rights of all citizens.

"Democracy without equality and without principles does not have its full meaning and I believe that this is just a contribution to a democratic society and a society of greater justice and greater inclusion," DPM Abazović concluded.
