Bečić: Constitutional Court appointments confirm Montenegro’s reform capacity

Today’s election of the two remaining judges of the Constitutional Court, achieved through broad consensus in the Parliament of Montenegro, confirms that Montenegro is ready to make the most difficult decisions in the interest of the rule of law and its European future. A fully functional Constitutional Court is one of the key prerequisites for meeting the closing benchmarks under Chapter 23 and must remain a bastion of justice, fairness and independence.
Following the constitutional amendments through which members of the Government were stripped of immunity, and the Judicial Council was relieved of Government members, today’s vote demonstrates that Montenegro has the capacity to implement the most demanding reforms and complete its institutional framework. Our goal remains clear: to close all negotiating chapters by the end of this year and secure Montenegro’s membership in the European Union in 2028.
