Bečić: Montenegro is beginning to live the European reality

At the beginning of the mandate of the 44th Government, we inherited a European integration process that had been practically stalled for years.

Over a period of 12 years, all previous governments managed to close only three negotiating chapters, and that at the very outset, while the IBAR remained an insurmountable obstacle for them. In less than two and a half years of our mandate, we first secured the historic IBAR in Chapters 23 and 24, and then closed 11 negotiating chapters, completing the majority of work in all other chapters.

The culmination of our European achievements so far, and confirmation of the exceptional progress made, was also reflected in yesterday’s decision by EU Member States to establish a working group for drafting Montenegro’s Accession Treaty.

Therefore, all attempts at obstruction and efforts to halt reforms are in vain. Montenegro continues to work diligently on fulfilling the remaining obligations, pursuing a determined fight against crime, building strong institutions, and implementing numerous other reforms. Every attempt at obstruction has only strengthened our resolve and motivation.

Montenegro is beginning to live the European reality. The historic goal and dream of many generations is within reach. We move forward with determination and dedication.
