Bečić: The state is firmly determined never to return under the control of parallel power structures

Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Bečić commended the Special State Prosecutor’s Office and the Special Police Unit for their coordinated efforts, noting that today’s arrest of the Head of the Police Security Department in Danilovgrad represents yet another clear signal that Montenegro is determined never to return under the control of parallel power structures.
For decades, some individuals concealed criminal activity behind uniforms, distributed badges based on party loyalty, and controlled institutions from the shadows. Those same circles are now in panic, Bečić stated.
He emphasized that claims suggesting arrests are politically motivated, or that vetting and integrity checks amount to political persecution, only serve to highlight how deeply entrenched and unlawfully protected these networks were.
It is not that they don’t understand vetting—they oppose it because it exposes them. It exposes who appointed whom, who was promoted and protected, but also what they did. It uncovers their footprint, the origin of their influence, the source of their money. It reveals the abuse, he added.
Those who have nothing to hide should have nothing to fear. Those who are clean should welcome this process. And those who believed they would remain protected forever must now understand—this state has awakened, and no one is beyond its reach, Bečić concluded.
