Biography Rajko Pesic

Director General of the Directorate for Defence Policy

Major General Rajko Pesic was born on 14 April 1973 in Bijelo Polje.

Education

Major General Rajko Pesic finished his primary education in Bijelo Polje in 1987. Thereafter, he finished Military High School in Belgrade in 1991. He graduated from the Belgrade Military Academy in 1995 in which year he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.

Career

He began his military career in 1995 at 5th motorized brigade of the Podgorica Corps where until 2004 he occupied positions of a tank platoon/company leader, and a deputy commander and commander representative of the armored battalion. From 2004 to 2006, he performed duties within the 568th Podgorica Corps Training Center as an officer for operations, training and planning.

In 2006, he was posted to Training Department (J-7), General Staff of the Armed Forces of Montenegro at the position of en officer for training, and in July 2007, he assumed duty as an officer within the Department for Military to Military Cooperation of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Montenegro (J-5). Simultaneously, he performed duties as the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council until August 2008.

In the period from August 2008 to June 2011, he was the first Defense Attaché of Montenegro to the United States. After graduating from the US War School in 2012, he took over the position of an Adviser to the Defense Minister for military affairs until April 2015, when he became Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Montenegro. He was appointed Military Representative of Montenegro to NATO and the EU in Brussels on 31 March 2017 and ended on 31 March 2020, since when he assumed duties of Director General of the Directorate for Defense Policy and Planning in the Ministry of Defense.

Advancement

He completed several professional training courses, the most important of which were the Armored Battalion Commanders Course in 2004, the Multinational Brigade Staff Officers Course and the United Nations Military Observer Course in 2006, and the Tactical English Course in 2007. He graduated from the Army War College in the United States in 2012.

He was promoted to the rank of Major General on 1st May 2020.

Awards and decorations

Major General Pesic was awarded the United States Legion of Merit medal.

He is not married and lives in Podgorica.
