Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović meets with Apostolic Nuncio Chullikatt

Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović met today with Apostolic Nuncio to Montenegro, Archbishop Francis Assisi Chullikatt.

The meeting welcomed the fact that preparations for the construction of the resident Nunciature building are in their final stage, underscoring the excellent relations between the Holy See and Montenegro and their shared commitment to further cooperation. Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović emphasized Montenegro’s active support for this initiative, noting its significance for strengthening political dialogue, cultural exchange, and educational ties. Apostolic Nuncio Chullikatt expressed satisfaction with the pace of discussions and confidence that the opening of the Nunciature will further deepen bilateral relations.

The talks also covered Montenegro’s EU integration, with recognition that the country is steadily progressing toward closing all negotiation chapters and is on track for full EU membership by 2028. Apostolic Nuncio Chullikatt affirmed this goal as realistic, praising Montenegro’s reform efforts and progress, while stressing that the country serves as an example for other EU candidates.

Special attention was given to institutional cooperation, including links between Montenegro’s Institute for Children’s Diseases and the Vatican’s Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital, as well as cultural cooperation between Montenegro’s Ministry of Culture and Media and the Holy See’s Dicastery for Culture and Education.

The meeting concluded with Apostolic Nuncio Chullikatt presenting Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović with a commemorative medal issued by the Vatican for the Jubilee Year 2025 – a traditional token symbolizing friendship, respect, and recognition of Montenegro’s contribution to fostering strong relations with the Holy See.
