DPM Bečić meets with newly appointed Ambassador of China Chen Xufeng

Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Bečić met with the newly appointed Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Montenegro Chen Xufeng and his associates.

Deputy Prime Minister Bečić wished the Ambassador a successful start to his mandate, with the aim of further developing relations between the two countries.

As a NATO member and a future member of the European Union, Montenegro is firmly positioned on its European and Euro-Atlantic path, while also maintaining good relations with friendly countries in areas of mutual interest. Montenegro and China have a tradition of good relations and intensive cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy, transport infrastructure, culture, and education. This is evidenced by numerous implemented projects, as well as the significant increase in the number of tourists from China in recent years, Bečić noted.

Deputy Prime Minister Bečić also highlighted the reform-oriented course of the current Government across multiple sectors.

During the mandate of this Government, Montenegro has made significant progress in European integration and in the decisive fight against crime. We are building a system of strong institutions, where law enforcement bodies are guided not by who someone is, but by whether they respect the law and serve the state or act against it. A process of staff restructuring and professionalisation is underway, based on the principles of professionalism and integrity, alongside the strengthening of all capacities. The state is finally above any individual. We strive to contribute to and promote the paths of peace, stability, mutual respect, and cooperation, as these are the foundations of progress, development, and the common good, Bečić stated.

The interlocutors also highlighted the symbolism of the current year, marking 20 years since the restoration of Montenegro’s independence and 20 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China, noting that this jubilee represents an additional incentive for further strengthening cooperation.
