DPM Ivanović: Government’s position on agreement alignment confirmed by the European Commission

The letter from the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Ms. Marta Kos, explicitly confirming that the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism and Real Estate Development between Montenegro and the United Arab Emirates, in its form and substance, does not contain provisions that would be in conflict with the EU acquis, serves as confirmation of what I clearly stated during the session of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) of the European Parliament.
As I emphasized at the time, the agreements are not, in their content, in contradiction with the legal framework of the European Union, nor with the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA). On the contrary, this is clearly stated within the agreements themselves. It is also important to note that their implementation and concretization have not yet begun, and therefore, at this point, it cannot be said that they have any actual legal or practical effects.
The recommendations coming from the European Commission are received with full attention and respect.
Montenegro remains firmly committed to its European path. All international activities of the Government are directed toward strengthening economic relations, but always in line with the strategic goal of EU membership and the obligations arising from that process.
