DPM Ivanović hosts farewell meeting with ongoing Ukrainian Ambassador Oleh Herasimenko

Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović hosted a farewell meeting with the ongoing Ambassador of Ukraine to Montenegro Oleh Herasimenko.

During the cordial meeting, they discussed the traditionally friendly relations between Montenegro and Ukraine, current situation in Ukraine, as well as Montenegro’s support for Ukraine.

Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović emphasised that Montenegro remains firmly committed to preserving independence and sovereignty of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders. He stressed that, in line with its capacities and international obligations, Montenegro continues to provide support through bilateral and multilateral mechanisms, as well as within the framework of the United Nations, the OSCE and the Council of Europe. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of sustained diplomatic efforts aimed at establishing a just and lasting peace based on international law and reliable security guarantees.

Speaking about the European path, Ivanović expressed Montenegro’s full readiness to provide support, in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding between Montenegro and Ukraine signed earlier this year.

Ambassador Herasimenko expressed his deep gratitude to Montenegro for its principled, continuous and strong support since the very beginning of Russia’s aggression. He particularly commended Montenegro’s institutions, noting that, through its concrete contributions, Montenegro has been a true inspiration on the European path and a reliable friend during the most challenging moments.

The meeting also confirmed the mutual commitment to strengthening cooperation in the areas of security and defence, economy, tourism, digital transformation and judiciary, emphasising that there is significant scope for further intensifying cooperation through concrete projects.

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović thanked Ambassador Herasimenko for his personal contribution, dedication and professional engagement during his tenure in Montenegro, wishing him every success in his future career, while expressing his conviction that the friendly and mutually respectful relations between the two countries will remain a lasting value and a solid foundation for future cooperation.
