DPM Ivanović meets with Irish Ambassador Ragnar Almqvist on farewell visit

Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović received Ambassador of Ireland Ragnar Almqvist for a farewell visit as he concludes his mandate as non-resident ambassador to Montenegro, based in Budapest.
Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović thanked Ambassador Almqvist for his personal contribution to strengthening relations between Montenegro and Ireland, expressing hope that the incoming Irish ambassador – who will be based in Belgrade – will continue to be actively engaged in advancing Montenegro’s bilateral and European agenda.
Ambassador Almqvist commended Montenegro’s progress on its path toward EU membership, praising the commitment of Montenegrin institutions and the personal engagement of Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović in the process. He shared highly positive impressions from Ivanović’s recent visit to Dublin, expressing confidence that Montenegro is steadfastly pursuing its European goals and will remain a frontrunner in European integration.
The interlocutors agreed that Ireland’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2026 represents a significant opportunity for Montenegro, as the closing of all negotiating chapters is planned during that period. Ambassador Almqvist emphasized Ireland’s readiness to provide full support in achieving this important milestone.
