DPM Ivanović meets with UN Resident Coordinator Caroline Tissot: Deepening partnership and strengthening shared development priorities

Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović met today with the UN Resident Coordinator to Montenegro Caroline Tissot.
Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović congratulated Tissot on her appointment and welcomed her to Montenegro, expressing confidence that cooperation with the United Nations will continue to develop through a strong, partnership-based and effective framework. He emphasized that cooperation to date has been of particular importance for Montenegro’s foreign policy, especially in the context of the country’s European path.
The meeting highlighted the importance of the work carried out by UN bodies and agencies present in Montenegro, particularly in the areas of sustainable development, climate policy, migration policy, social cohesion, and capacity-building for democratic governance. Ivanović stressed that Montenegro’s long-standing cooperation with the UN system, especially regarding the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, is complementary to the EU integration process and represents an essential pillar in the country’s reform efforts.
Resident Coordinator Tissot congratulated Montenegro on the results of the latest European Commission Report, in which the country was recognized as the best-ranked candidate for EU membership.
Tissot and Ivanović agreed that Montenegro has already clearly positioned itself as an active member of the United Nations, which provides an additional basis for further strengthening the country’s role in multilateral processes.
The two officials expressed readiness to work together to deepen cooperation and further enhance it in line with Montenegro’s development priorities and the mandate of the United Nations.
