DPM Koprivica congratulates Nikšić on winning the title of European Capital of Culture 2030

It is my honour and pleasure to extend my most sincere congratulations on the occasion of the exceptional news from Brussels – the remarkable success of Nikšić being awarded the title of European Capital of Culture for 2030. I congratulate all citizens of Nikšić, the President of the Municipality and the local self-government for their dedicated work on this project, as well as the Minister of Culture who, with her ministry, firmly supported this idea – with the full backing of the Government of Montenegro.

This is an impressive recognition for our Nikšić, and a confirmation that commitment, perseverance, and love for culture are recognised and valued beyond the borders of Montenegro. Throughout history, Nikšić has been home to creators, visionaries, and people of exceptional spirit, and today it has shown that it still nurtures that energy – and is now ready to share it with all of Europe.

This title brings not only pride, but also responsibility – to present our city in the best possible way, showcasing all that makes it unique: its rich cultural heritage, its vibrant contemporary art scene, its openness to dialogue and exchange of ideas, and the strength of a community that believes in progress.

The Government of Montenegro has firmly supported this initiative, and all institutional assistance will be directed towards ensuring that Nikšić fully seizes this historic opportunity. We will stand shoulder to shoulder with all those who have been building this story for years – from cultural workers, the local government, and artists, to every citizen who believes in the potential of our Nikšić.

As a native of Nikšić, I feel immense pride knowing that in 2030, Europe will look towards Nikšić – by then a city within the EU – as a symbol of culture, as well as of hope, creativity, and unity. This news evokes emotions that words can hardly describe – a blend of pride, gratitude, and powerful motivation to contribute together to this great journey ahead.
