DPM Koprivica meets with His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem

Deputy Prime Minister Momo Koprivica met in Jerusalem with His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem. The discussions focused on the historical ties between Montenegro and the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, the protection of religious freedoms, and the importance of interfaith dialogue in a democratic society.
Deputy Prime Minister Koprivica reaffirmed the Government of Montenegro’s commitment to safeguarding and advancing religious freedoms, dialogue, and respect for all faith communities. He noted that a large number of Montenegrin citizens visit the holy sites under the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, as did prominent Montenegrin state figures throughout history. He also recalled the visit of Patriarch Theophilos III to Montenegro on the occasion of the consecration of the Church of St. Jovan Vladimir in Bar.
Patriarch Theophilos III highlighted the historic and spiritual connection of Jerusalem’s Christian holy sites with believers around the world, including those in Montenegro. He welcomed the fact that Montenegro’s legal framework is fully grounded in respect for freedom of religion. He also recalled his cooperation with Metropolitan Amfilohije, expressing his deepest respect for his spiritual mission both in Montenegro and globally.
The talks further addressed possibilities for strengthening cultural and spiritual ties, as well as potential initiatives in the field of culture.
Both sides agreed that cooperation between Montenegro and the Patriarchate of Jerusalem can contribute to the promotion of peace, mutual understanding, and the richness of multicultural heritage.
Deputy Prime Minister Koprivica conveyed warm greetings from Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, Joanikije, to His Beatitude, who expressed his gratitude and reciprocated with cordial greetings and deep respect, wishing progress to Montenegro and all its people. On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Koprivica presented Patriarch Theophilos III with the most significant Montenegrin literary work, The Mountain Wreath by Petar II Petrović Njegoš.
Deputy Prime Minister Koprivica thanked Patriarch Theophilos III for his hospitality and the meaningful conversation, and emphasized that Montenegro remains committed to fostering friendly relations with all religious communities and institutions that embody the universal values of peace and solidarity.
