DPM Koprivica meets with Malta’s Attorney General: Možura case must be fully clarified

During his official visit to Malta, Deputy Prime Minister for Political System, Justice and Anti-Corruption Momo Koprivica met with Attorney General of Malta Victoria Buttigieg.
A central topic of discussion was the cooperation between Montenegro and Malta in the fight against international corruption. Deputy Prime Minister Koprivica emphasized the importance of jointly resolving the Možura case, which is not only linked to high-level corruption but also to the murder of investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.
The duty to shed light on both the crime and the corruption stems not only from the resolutions of the European Parliament but also from the fundamental need to build a healthy society in which every attack on life, freedom of speech, and the work of journalists is sanctioned. The Government of Montenegro will do everything within its competence — respecting judicial independence — to ensure that the Možura affair and the murder of the brave journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia are fully clarified. Because the murder of a journalist is not merely a crime against an individual — it is an attack on society as a whole. Our answer must be truth and justice, without compromise, Koprivica stated.
Both parties agreed on the need to intensify cooperation between the competent institutions of the two countries and to define concrete mechanisms that would enable efficient exchange of information and effective action in combating corruption and organized crime.
Deputy Prime Minister Koprivica also informed Attorney General Buttigieg about ongoing justice sector reforms in Montenegro and the Government’s measures aimed at accelerating European integration and strengthening legal certainty. Attorney General Buttigieg, in turn, presented Malta’s system of measures aimed at enhancing the independence of the prosecution and improving the efficiency of processing corruption-related cases.

In a meeting with Minister for Justice of Malta Jonathan Attard, the two officials exchanged mutual experiences in the implementation of European standards and Venice Commission recommendations related to judicial reforms in both countries. Deputy Prime Minister Koprivica expressed gratitude for Malta’s continued support to Montenegro in its EU integration process.
While in Malta, Deputy Prime Minister Koprivica also met with Matthew Caruana Galizia, investigative journalist and son of the murdered journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. On this occasion, he expressed Montenegro’s strong commitment to actively contributing to the clarification of all circumstances surrounding this case. Mr. Caruana Galizia thanked Deputy Prime Minister Koprivica for his support and expressed readiness to assist through the exchange of relevant information and data.
In addition to meetings with Malta’s top government officials, Deputy Prime Minister Koprivica also held consultations with Charles Deguara, Auditor General of the National Audit Office, Joseph Azzopardi, Honorary President of the Supreme Court and Commissioner for Standards in Public Life, as well as heads of the Permanent Commission Against Corruption, head of the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit, and head of the Economic Crime Unit.
