General Commander Çetin: Full support in the fight against crime and corruption

Our mission is to work on progress, peace and development of good relations and cooperation with all partners. We want to get support from Turkey, as a NATO ally, in the field of security. Montenegro wants to strengthen stability in the Western Balkans, said Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović at the meeting with General Commander of the Turkish Gendarmerie Arif Çetin.

DPM Abazović, at the invitation of Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Turkey Süleyman Soylu, is paying a three-day working visit to Turkey.

General Commander Çetin stated that the Republic of Turkey and Montenegro cherish friendly relations, providing full support to Abazović in the fight against crime and corruption. Çetin also emphasised that the institution he heads sincerely wants to help our country fight crime and corruption.

During the tour round Gendarmerie building, General Commander Çetin briefed DPM Abazović on the capacity and conditions in which the institution operates, stating that it has 240,000 employees, deployed in 934 sectors across the country, of which 50,000 are in charge of fighting terrorism and violent extremism, while 5,000 Gendarmerie members are in charge of fighting smuggling and organised crime.
