Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović held a phone call today with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

Ibrahimović expressed regret that four years have passed since the beginning of Russia’s unlawful and unjustified aggression against Ukraine, which constitutes a grave violation of the fundamental principles of international law and has resulted in devastating consequences for the civilian population. He underlined the alarming fact that more than 15,000 civilians have lost their lives, including at least 766 children, while millions have been displaced and significant destruction of civilian property and infrastructure has occurred across the country.

He recalled that numerous events had been organized in Montenegro in recent days to express full support and solidarity with Ukraine and its citizens. He emphasized that Montenegro consistently supports the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.

Sybiha thanked his Montenegrin counterpart for Montenegro’s sincere and principled support for Ukraine at all levels, as well as for Ibrahimović’s clear and unequivocal positions in international fora. The two officials also discussed the date for holding political bilateral consultations at the level of state secretaries.

It was noted that Montenegro and Ukraine maintain a high level of cooperation in bilateral and multilateral frameworks. Montenegro remains strongly committed to continuing its support for Ukraine within the United Nations, as confirmed by its support for all resolutions submitted by Ukraine to the General Assembly. In this context, it was emphasized that, in order to achieve a just and lasting peace, Ukraine must be in the strongest possible negotiating position, which requires continued comprehensive support from allies, with particular emphasis on the NATO Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) mechanism, as an indispensable instrument for delivering critical military assistance to Ukraine.

At the conclusion of the conversation, the ministers expressed satisfaction with the close relations between the two countries and the traditional interest of Ukrainian citizens in Montenegro as a tourist destination, expressing mutual expectations that this connection will continue to be strengthened through their visits and stays in Montenegro.
