Ibrahimović in Barcelona: Joint response to challenges is key to the region’s stability and prosperity

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović participated today in the 10th Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Regional Forum in Barcelona, at the invitation of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain José Manuel Albares, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Ayman Safadi.
The Forum, held to mark the 30th anniversary of the Barcelona Process, gathered ministers and high-level representatives of member states with the aim of strengthening political dialogue and regional cooperation. During the session, the Mediterranean Pact, a new strategic framework for deepening Euro-Mediterranean partnership and jointly addressing security, economic, and climate challenges, was adopted.
In his address, Ibrahimović stressed that no country can face these challenges alone. We need stronger coordination, better information exchange, and more joint initiatives, he stated, adding that the Union for the Mediterranean remains a key platform for cooperation.
He placed special emphasis on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, reiterating Montenegro’s consistent position on the need for a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution, in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
Ibrahimović said Montenegro is ready to further contribute to maritime security, climate resilience, and the protection of marine and coastal ecosystems. It is encouraging that Montenegro, as the leading EU accession country in the region, is recognized as a credible and constructive partner, he emphasized.
He held bilateral meetings with Spain’s Foreign Minister Albares and Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Safadi, and met numerous ministers and heads of delegations on the margins of the Forum. They exchanged views on current geopolitical and regional challenges and discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations and launch concrete initiatives in areas of mutual interest.
Montenegro remains strongly committed to multilateralism and joint action within the Union for the Mediterranean, with the goal of building a more peaceful, secure, and prosperous region.
