Ibrahimović, Tenney: Continue strengthening Montenegro–U.S. partnership

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović met today in Podgorica with U.S. Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, who is visiting the Western Balkans as part of a regional tour.

Ibrahimović expressed satisfaction with the renewed meeting and continued communication with representatives of the U.S. Congress, stressing the importance of intensive political dialogue and mutual visits for further strengthening the strategic partnership between Montenegro and the United States.

The United States is our strategic partner, friend and ally. Our relations are further strengthened by our NATO alliance, as well as our shared interest in peace, stability and prosperity in the Western Balkans. We highly value the strong U.S. support for Montenegro’s European perspective and our reform efforts, Ibrahimović said.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the situation in the region, noting that continued strong U.S. engagement in the Western Balkans is of particular importance for maintaining the region’s stability and resilience. Ibrahimović stressed that Montenegro, as a reliable U.S. ally and a country fully aligned with the EU’s foreign policy, remains committed to contributing to a stable and secure regional environment.

Particular attention was paid to economic relations, with Ibrahimović stressing Montenegro’s interest in increased presence and investment by U.S. companies, particularly in the fields of energy, infrastructure, tourism and the digital sector.

In this context, particular importance was attached to the Intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation for the Implementation of Strategic Projects (G2G), which entered into force on 13 August and opens up opportunities for concrete cooperation on projects of strategic importance to Montenegro, as well as for stronger involvement of U.S. companies.
