Ivanović attends the Munich Security Conference

Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović is participating in the Munich Security Conference, one of the most significant global forums dedicated to contemporary security and geopolitical challenges. During the first day of the Conference, Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović held a series of bilateral meetings with high-level officials.

At a meeting with the United States Special Presidential Envoy for Special Missions, Ambassador Richard Grenell, the strong alliance between Montenegro and the United States was reaffirmed. The interlocutors exchanged views on contemporary security challenges, regional dynamics and current global developments, as well as on the potential for strengthening bilateral cooperation between Montenegro and the United States in areas of mutual interest.

During a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal Paulo Rangel strong support for Montenegro’s European integration was reiterated, along with mutual readiness to further enhance bilateral relations and cooperation within the framework of the European agenda.

Ivanović also met with the European Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy Jessika Roswall, with whom he discussed Montenegro’s progress in the European integration process, with particular emphasis on Chapter 27, including activities in the field of environmental protection and fulfilment of obligations stemming from the European agenda.

With Héctor Cárdenas Suárez, President of the Mexican Council on Foreign Relations, Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović exchanged views on contemporary global political and economic trends.

On the margins of the Conference, Ivanović also held brief discussions with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Foreign Trade of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Baiba Braže, Minister of Finance of Norway and former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Konaković; Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain José Manuel Albares, and Minister for European Integration of Serbia Nemanja Starović.

As part of the official opening of the Conference, Ivanović attended the central programme events, including a panel dedicated to the role of Germany in Europe and the world, as well as the round table “Mapping Resilient Corridors: The Three Seas Initiative and Transatlantic Energy Security”, organised by the Three Seas Initiative and the Government of the Republic of Croatia.

The Munich Security Conference has for decades brought together world leaders, ministers and representatives of international organisations, representing a key platform for the exchange of views on global security and geopolitical challenges.
