Ivanović: Final stage of EU accession talks requires discipline, planning and continuity
In an interview with the MINA news agency, Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović spoke about the final phase of Montenegro’s negotiations with the European Union, emphasizing that in this period it is of crucial importance to ensure disciplined, planned and coordinated work by all institutions.
Ivanović particularly stressed that, for the Government of Montenegro, the European agenda is not merely a matter of day-to-day politics, but a long-term development strategy of the state, and that it is of key importance that all branches of government, at different levels, view European integration precisely in this context – as a shared state interest and responsibility.
Speaking about the dynamics of the negotiation process, the Deputy Prime Minister assessed that Montenegro is entering the most intensive phase of European integration to date, with expectations of more frequent intergovernmental conferences and further progress in closing negotiation chapters. He underlined that the reform processes being implemented are delivering measurable results and confirm the country’s credibility in its relations with European partners.
The Deputy Prime Minister also pointed to the importance of consistent implementation of reforms, particularly in the areas of the rule of law, judicial reform, the fight against corruption and organized crime, strengthening public administration, economic standards, and environmental protection, emphasizing that these are key prerequisites for the successful completion of the negotiation process.
Ivanović stated that Montenegro’s European path represents a fundamental transformation of society, leading to stronger institutions, greater legal certainty, and an improved quality of life for citizens.
