Ivanović, Gjonlleshaj: Interfaith harmony important for Montenegro’s European path

Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović met today with the Archbishop of Bar, Monsignor Rrok Gjonlleshaj.

During the meeting, they discussed Montenegro’s social development and European perspective, with a particular focus on the role of religious communities in strengthening social cohesion and a culture of dialogue. It was emphasised that mutual respect and open communication represent the foundation of a stable society and an important tool for overcoming differences. In this context, the importance of promoting European values was highlighted, including respect for the dignity of every individual, solidarity and a commitment to the common good, as well as the need to further strengthen these values through the actions of institutions and communities.

Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović underlined that Montenegro, with its multi-religious and intercultural character, symbolises the diverse identity of Europe, emphasising that preserving such a society contributes to its successful progress towards the European Union.

Monsignor Gjonlleshaj highlighted his commitment to strengthening dialogue and trust among communities, noting that the Archdiocese of Bar supports all initiatives that benefit all citizens of Montenegro, including the country’s European path.

The interlocutors assessed that Montenegro’s further progress rests on partnership, trust and the responsible engagement of all social actors, alongside a strong commitment to the European path and universal values.
