Ivanović hosts DPM Gerasimov: Montenegro willing to share experience from accession negotiation process with Moldova

Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović hosted earlier today his Moldavian counterpart Kristina Gerasimov, who is paying a study visit to Montenegro.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the good relations between the two countries and their shared commitment to European integration, noting that there is room for further improvement of bilateral cooperation.

DPM Ivanović stressed that Montenegro, as the most advanced candidate country for the EU membership, is willing to support Moldova by sharing the experience and expertise gained throughout the accession negotiations, particularly in the areas of implementing reforms, aligning with the EU acquis and strengthening institutional capacities, in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed last year.

Deputy Prime Minister Gerasimov praised the progress Montenegro has made on its path towards the European Union, highlighting the importance of the results achieved in the negotiation process and the experience that could prove valuable to Moldova in its further progress towards EU membership.

The two officials also discussed opportunities to intensify cooperation in the areas of the rule of law, institutional reforms and countering hybrid threats, including the exchange of experience and best practices in areas of mutual interest.

They also confirmed their willingness to further strengthen political dialogue and partnership, pointing out that mutual support and the exchange of experience can make an additional contribution to the European integration efforts of both countries.
