Ivanović in Dudelange: Diaspora as important bridge between Montenegro and Luxembourg

Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović met in Dudelange with representatives of the Montenegrin associations in Luxembourg. He expressed his satisfaction with the meeting, noting that he is pleased to have the opportunity to speak with members of the Montenegrin diaspora.

At the beginning of the meeting, he briefed them on the discussions he had with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel, emphasising that the talks focused on further improving relations between the two countries, with the Montenegrin diaspora recognised as an important bridge connecting Montenegro and Luxembourg.

He highlighted that the Montenegrin community in Luxembourg is deeply integrated and represents a significant part of society, adding that Montenegro’s primary foreign policy goal is membership in the European Union. In that context, he stated that Montenegro is in the final phase of European integration, assessing that relations between the two countries will become even closer after accession to the Union, along with numerous benefits that membership brings, including easier communication and cooperation.

DPM Ivanović emphasised that the Government of Montenegro is committed to strengthening relations with the diaspora, recalling that the Ministry of Diaspora has been established, further confirming the importance the state attaches to cooperation with its expatriates. He pointed out that the Government and the Embassy of Montenegro in Brussels are open to communication with the diaspora, their needs and suggestions, and that additional efforts are being made to improve institutional presence in Luxembourg in order to provide better support to Montenegrin citizens, as confirmed by the upcoming opening of an Office of the Embassy of Montenegro in Brussels in Luxembourg.

Ambassador of Montenegro in Brussels Olivera Injac stated that intensified cooperation with Luxembourg has been further strengthened since she took office, noting that the establishment of a diplomatic presence in Luxembourg will represent an important step forward in strengthening relations. She emphasised that the goal is to provide additional support to Montenegrin citizens, not only in consular matters but also through broader cooperation and communication. She also pointed to planned activities marking the 20th anniversary of the restoration of Montenegro’s independence.

Nedžad Adrović stated that it is an honor and pleasure for him to be engaged in the work of the diplomatic office in Luxembourg, assessing that this step represents a long-awaited improvement in institutional support for the Montenegrin diaspora.

Representatives of the Montenegrin associations presented their activities and initiatives, along with an exchange of views on opportunities for further cooperation. Ivanović thanked them for their dedication, stressing that through their work they maintain ties with their homeland and contribute to its promotion, while Ambassador Injac conveyed that the State appreciates their engagement and their commitment to Montenegro.
