Ivanović meets EU and regional ambassadors in Warsaw

A briefing hosted by Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović was held at the Embassy of Montenegro in Warsaw with ambassadors and chargé d’affaires of EU Member States and countries of the region accredited to Poland.

The meeting was the first gathering of this format hosted by the Embassy of Montenegro and brought together numerous representatives of the diplomatic corps, the Polish administration, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chancellery of the President, as well as representatives of the non-governmental sector and leading research organisations. Participants also included representatives of the Centre for International Relations and the Polish Institute of International Affairs, two prominent institutions working on international relations, security and European policy.

Ivanović presented Montenegro’s current progress on its path towards the European Union, stressing that EU membership is much more than a political goal for Montenegro; it represents a civilisational choice and belonging to a community of values to which Montenegro naturally belongs.

He placed particular emphasis on the importance of the enlargement policy, describing it as one of the European Union’s most successful policies. As he noted, it is precisely through enlargement that the European Union demonstrates itself as a truly united Europe, founded on shared values, security and prosperity.

In this context, Ivanović stressed that the successful completion of Montenegro’s accession process and the conclusion of the Accession Treaty would send a strong signal to other candidate countries that the enlargement policy is credible and that reform results lead to a concrete goal.

Enlargement is in the interest of both candidate countries and the European Union itself. It means more unity, greater stability and a stronger Europe, particularly at a time of pronounced security and geopolitical challenges, Ivanović said.

He also highlighted the importance of preparations for the next phase of the accession process, noting that concrete mechanisms have already been launched and working structures established to contribute to Montenegro’s most effective possible preparations for membership.

The briefing provided an opportunity to directly present Montenegro’s priorities and achievements to partners in Warsaw, while further strengthening support for its European path. For Montenegro, maintaining continuous dialogue with Member States remains of particular importance, given that the coming period will be crucial for turning the reform progress achieved into concrete steps towards full membership in the European Union.

The event was organised by the Embassy of Montenegro in Warsaw and the Embassy of Italy in Warsaw, providing an opportunity for a direct exchange of views on Montenegro’s European path and the European Union’s current enlargement policy.
