Krivokapić, Mitsotakis: What Greece is in the Mediterranean, Montenegro will be on the Adriatic coast

Prime Minister of Montenegro Zdravko Krivokapić met with Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Prime Minister Krivokapić thanked his Greek counterpart on behalf of the Montenegrin delegation for their hospitality and pointed out that during the previous two days he had the opportunity to discuss with numerous officials and business representatives the possibilities for improving cooperation between the two countries and European integration process of Montenegro .

"The Government is determined to effectively remove all potential obstacles to Montenegro's membership in the EU. Primarily in the field of fight against corruption and organized crime. We confirmed that, with quick and efficient decisions, already in the first days of the mandate," said PM Krivokapić.

Prime Minister Krivokapić pointed out that the tasks of the Government are to guarantee the rule of law as one of the key preconditions for membership, and to work in parallel on the rehabilitation of the Montenegrin economy in post-pandemic circumstances. "We are especially grateful to our partners in the EU, including the friendly government of Greece, for the support shown to us in the fight against the coronavirus," said Prime Minister Krivokapić.

PM Krivokapić pointed out that the Government will also work on improving the tourist offer, so that Montenegro, as a part of the Adriatic coast, would have the importance that Greece has in the Mediterranean.

Prime Minister Mitsotakis thanked Prime Minister Krivokapić and members of the Montenegrin delegation for their visit to Greece and for the very constructive meetings that were held in the previous days with the representatives of the executive power in Greece. Mitsotakis expressed his desire to visit Montenegro, after which Prime Minister Krivokapic sent him an invitation, which the Greek Prime Minister gladly accepted. The Prime Minister of Greece emphasised that he highly appreciates the courage of the people from our region, who have fought for Greek freedom throughout history. "Like the famous hero Vaso Brajović, who is known among us Greeks as the Montenegrin," Prime Minister Mitsotakis pointed out, talking about the 200th anniversary of the uprising in Greece.

Mitsotakis pointed out that Montenegro and Greece are NATO partners, and that he wants to strengthen military cooperation in the future. The Prime Minister of Greece also said that a team of Greek experts would make an analysis, which would show how they could improve the economic cooperation between the two countries. Mitsotakis said that he would strongly support Greek investors to invest in Montenegro.

Furthermore, the two officials discussed the reintroduction of a regular flight from Athens to Montenegro. Prime Minister Mitsotakis announced that their national airline will soon resume flights from Athens to Podgorica and Tivat.

The meeting, which was also attended by Minister of Economic Development Jakov Milatović and Minister of Finance and Social Welfare Milojko Spajić, assessed that it is necessary to improve cooperation in the field of health and tourism, through numerous projects of common interest.
