Lovćen – Cetinje cable car project to transform the economic landscape of the Old Royal Capital, tender expected in second half of 2025

Prime Minister Milojko Spajić meets with Mayor of Cetinje Nikola Đurašković
The Government of Montenegro will finance the construction of the Lovćen – Cetinje cable car through the Capital Budget, a project expected to significantly improve the quality of life for citizens of the Old Royal Capital Cetinje. This was highlighted during a meeting between Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and Mayor Nikola Đurašković.
The Government will allocate €60 million for the project, with additional funding secured in this year’s Capital Budget to ensure a timely launch of the tendering process. We are grateful to the Old Royal Capital for preparing the Environmental Impact Assessment. We are building the fastest connection between two symbols of Montenegrin history, said Prime Minister Spajić.
Both sides agreed to intensify work on the project, with realistic expectations that the tender will be announced in the last quarter of 2025.
Mayor Đurašković expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for the cooperation and underlined the importance of the cable car for the citizens of Cetinje.
It is hard to imagine any infrastructure project being more important for the Old Royal Capital. The reason is simple—it has the potential to transform the local economy in a short period and fully harness our tourism potential, including historical heritage and national parks, stated Đurašković.
The meeting concluded with a joint message that the development of key transport infrastructure will improve Montenegro’s overall connectivity, positioning Cetinje as a much more prominent part of the national tourism offer—one that it rightfully deserves.
