Message from the Minister of Tourism Simonida Kordić

Dear friends, distinguished guests, 
Welcome to Montenegro – a land of sunshine, sea, mountains, and open hearts!

As you may already know, our country ranks among the most sought-after tourist destinations, not only in the region but across the globe. During the summer months, the Montenegrin coast transforms into a vibrant meeting point for those who cherish the warmth of the Mediterranean sun, the crystal-clear waters, and the renowned sincerity of Montenegrin hospitality.

We share our spellbinding Adriatic coastline with our neighbours – the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Albania – both of which are also attractive tourist destinations. That is precisely why I find it especially important to address you in this way today.

For several years now, one of the greatest challenges we face during the summer has been the sheer volume of vehicles, holidaymakers, and transit travellers, which often leads to traffic congestion and unnecessary delays – right at the time when we all wish to relax and enjoy ourselves.

If you’re travelling from Croatia towards Albania and planning to take the coastal route – via the Debeli Brijeg border crossing, Herceg Novi, Budva, Bar, and Ulcinj, ending at the Sukobin border – please be aware that you may encounter long queues and heavy traffic. There are many reasons for this, often beyond the reach of institutional control.

That is why, as friends, I warmly recommend considering an alternative border crossings Klobuk, Vraćenovići or Dobrakovo, and then route via Nikšić, Danilovgrad and Podgorica to Božaj.

If, however, you have already set off along the coastal road, you can still easily divert your journey via Herceg Novi and Grahovo towards Nikšić. In doing so, you’ll not only avoid the congestion, but also have the opportunity to discover some of our country’s hidden gems – such as the Ostrog Monastery, the Bjelopavlići plain, the River Zeta, and many other well-known and stunningly beautiful places in our central region.
